About the event
The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth will host a Eucharistic Congress for the first time ever this fall from October 17-20, 2024. What is a Eucharistic Congress about? A Eucharistic Congress is a specific time to gather as the faithful to reflect on our understanding and belief about the source and summit of our faith: the Eucharist. For many Catholics this is a time to re-discover why the Eucharist is so essential to our identity as Catholics. Christ gave himself up for us and gives himself to us through the Eucharist in order to transform the world.
To help us understand the Eucharistic, the Congress theme: Communion to heal the world, will be broken into five ways that the Eucharist can heal. The Eucharist can RESTORE, UNITE, INSPIRE, SERVE, and EQUIP.
We are also excited to welcome Blessed Carlo Acutis to the Congress as well! The first-class relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis will be . The relic will play a part of the Youth Night of the Congress on October 17 as well as be available for veneration at different times throughout the Congress.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, a Catholic Italian teenager who died in 2006, was beatified October 10th in Assisi, Italy. Acutis, was a gamer and computer programmer loved soccer and the Eucharist. Pope Francis referred to Carlo as a model of holiness in a digital age. Carlo’s life is an example of how young people can use and enjoy technology, including the internet and social media appropriately while growing in their relationship with Christ.
